Blogging takes a back seat to eating giant cannoli, swimming in the clear, tepid waters of the Mediterranean, rattling down narrow old cobbled back streets and sweating out an excess of wine under the still hot sun.
So, to start, I’ll give you unpiccolo gusto (a little taste) of vacation, starting with Oct. 11 in Trapani…
Ciao Faenza… and grazie for the beautiful send-off to our vacanza!
Smoke ’em if you got ’em (at Bologna airport).
Buongiorno Trapani! The rooftop terrace at our hotel, La Gancia (located right on the sea) is nothing short of amazing. And it’s SO WARM here!!
A night view over the ocean as we sip on a Spritz and an Americano and eat Sicilian appetizers (like tuna cous cous, eggplant & tomato chutney and veggie wrapped fresh ricotta in cinnamon sauce).
Good morning Trapani and thank you, espresso cup, for the sound advice.
Lively, labrinth-esque Trapani streets where one can (and did) get lost just looking for a bottle of vino.
Chillin’ like villians… ain’t got nothing but time…
Later on, Lisa, Andrea and Enrico (our Italian friends who are leading a tour in Sicilia) arrive with our bikes. Then we take a dip in the Med. Ahhhhh, the warm sea.
A barely contained packing frenzy in the hotel lobby and T$ and I are off to Erice — but we have about 3,000 feet of climbing between now and then.
Heading out of Trapani during rush hour, road warrior style…
Up, up and away — past a funicular and a view of the harbor as the sun starts to go down.
Night falls but we keep going… we don’t get to Erice until around 830… then there’s the part where we find our accommodation somehow in the dark twisting streets… take showers… it’s 11 by the time we find a restaurant that’s open and almost 1 a.m. once we eat pizza, drink wine and pass the flip out.
After a day of stone cold chillin’ out in Trapani, we made our way to Erice (ay-ree-chay)… but that will have to wait until I have access to internet that works harder than a Sicilian during mid-day in August. So until then… ‘sera!
